Introducing spanish handmade candy in central Tokyo.

Papabubble – Caramels Artesans started in Barcelona in 2004, and has since launched all over the world.The candies are all handmade and demonstrate the process of makingcandy for customers, and in doing so, entertaining kids and adult viewers alike. The shop design resembles a laboratory and shows off the finely presented handmade look of these experimental candies.
This is the second store in Japan and his first project working for Papabubble.

The laboratory style interior is typical Papabubble, welcoming visitors with an introduction to the candy making process. At the Shibuya brunch, to explore this style of shop to Tokyo, his challenge was focused on the interior design aspect relating to function, as a way of illustrating the facade’s peculiar dynamic of the minimalistic architecture.

Bright coloured walls inside help illustrate the facade. The colour is related to the function and temperature of the space. The bright red walls of the room reflect the candy heating process, whilst the calm blue cored walls of the kitchen where the candy craftsmen create and assemble the final forms, illustrate the process of cooling down.
The wooden shelf covered wall adds another layer to the solid surface on the front of the original irregular wall. The shelves themselves create extra storage space within this small store, upon which a layer of varying seasonal candies are displayed, as well as adding to the overall atmosphere of space. The shelves’ character changes according to whether they are filled with candy flowers, jewelry, or tiny fruit slices created by artisans each day.

Achieving a sense of stillness with the interior design, creates a marked contrast with the motion that comes from the activities within the store from entertaining the visitors.
